The Freedom & Focus Conference 2020:
Breathing is Meaning
The 6th Freedom & Focus Conference
July 30th to August 2nd, 2020
In collaboration with educational partner
Wellington, Aotearoa: New Zealand
Nau mai, haere mai ki Aotearoa. Welcome, welcome to Aotearoa New Zealand, for four days of rich and challenging learning and exchange. The theme of Freedom and Focus 2020 is ‘Breathing is Meaning’. This honours Catherine Fitzmaurice’s pivotal 1996 article of the same name.
The Freedom & Focus Conference is an international gathering open to the public that includes workshops and performances offered by certified Fitzmaurice Voicework® teachers and local artists. We will have the opportunity to spend time with staff and students at Toi Whakaari, an innovative Performing Arts Institution, and we will hear from leading Māori and Pasifika theatre makers about the values and innovations that drive their practice.
Over the years Toi Whakaari has built on a commitment to honour Tikanga (Māori process) as an essential element in the life of the school. As such, Toi Whakaari is recognisable as a uniquely New Zealand drama school. Toi Whakaari is diverse, inclusive, and committed to providing a learning environment that celebrates greatness in all its forms.
Stand by for the invitation to run a workshop, share your research and hone your performance work in the welcoming environment of fellow Fitzmaurice teachers and local and international practitioners. The call for proposals will be published no later than, October 1, 2019.
Get ready to be moved, shaken and embraced.
Freedom and Focus follows immediately after the 2020 VASTA conference in Sydney.
