Dr. Scott A. Mackenzie is the Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance and Director of Theatre at Alma College in Alma, Michigan. Before coming to Alma in the fall of 2016, he spent 15 years as at Westminster College in Pennsylvania, where he served as a Professor of Theatre. He earned his B. A. in Theatre at the University of Texas at Dallas, a Master of Fine Arts in Acting at Michigan State University and his Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Detroit. In 2004, Scott earned certification as an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework. He is a recipient of the Kennedy Center Gold Medallion for excellence in theatre education and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) /Association of Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) Prize for Innovation in Teaching Theatre. Currently he serves as the chair for KCACTF Region II. His acting credits include film, television, and theatre. Roles in Othello, Medea, All My Sons, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Arsenic and Old Lace are among his credits. Included in the, productions he has directed are: All My Sons, The Subject Was Roses, Lost in Yonkers, Born Yesterday, Crimes of the Heart, and The Imaginary Invalid. Westminster directing credits include The Importance of Being Earnest, The Laramie Project, Stop Kiss, and The Baker From Madrigal which was the English language premier of Traidor, inconfesso y martir by Spanish playwright Jose Zorilla translated and adapted by Westminster College faculty member Dr. Jeffrey Bersett. While on active duty with the United States Army Reserve, Scott directed Bigfoot Stole My Wife, the first play produced entirely by personnel stationed in Baghdad’s International (Green) Zone.
