Deanne Meek is a professional Mezzo-Soprano, passionate in her inquiry into the ways in which breath-centered somatic practices can inspire us to psychophysical knowing, vocal freedom and creative expression. As an interdisciplinary artist, she brings this curiosity to an international career as a singer of the classical repertoire, interpreting the literature and poetry she loves through the music of the world’s great composers. As a voice and movement teacher, this inquiry informs her commitment to empower other artists searching for freedom and excellence, teaching many of the tools fundamental to her own craft. Deanne maintains studios in Seattle, WA, and in New York City, offering private study and workshops worldwide through a variety of somatic learning methods, many of which find expression within the teachings of Catherine Fitzmaurice. Trained in New York with Post-Graduate studies in London, she is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, is a licensed instructor of the Melt Method, a certified teacher of alignment-based Hatha yoga, and a graduate of the Breathing Project in New York City. In addition to teaching the Fitzmaurice Voicework, she is also a student of the Knight-Thompson Speechwork, and has studied acting with Cay Michael Patten and with Fay Simpson in the Lucid Body process. Highlights of her performing career include principle roles sung in many of the world’s great opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, English National Opera, Teatre Real, Madrid, Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, La Monnaie, Brussels, Le Châtelet, Paris, Teatre del Colon, Buenos Aires, and Teatro alla Scala, Milan. She can be heard on the Telarc, PS Classics and Virgin labels in both CD and DVD formats. Deanne assists her long-time voice teacher, Trish McCaffrey, as part of her teaching studio in New York City, and has held an adjunct position in the music program of Long Island University, CW Post NY, teaching the Alexander Technique. She is a member of AmSAT, VASTA, NATS, AGMA and the Yoga Alliance.
