Doug Chapman is an actor, educator and communication consultant who teaches Voice & Speech at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Theatre Arts. As a theatre educator, Doug specializes in the holistic development of actors by integrating the somatic foundations of Fitzmaurice Voicework with training methods developed at the Moscow Art Theatre School and perspectives develped through the investigation of holistic science. Doug also teaches courses in Creative Thinking at Montclair State University and is Director of Communications for BioBat Art Space, a Bioart gallery focused on art-science collaborations. His teaching and acting career has taken him to Australia, Chile, South Africa, Mexico, U.K., Canada, Russia and the U.S.A. Acting credits include work with American Repertory Theatre, International WOW Company, The Living Theatre, La Mama, Studio Six of the Moscow Art Theatre, Empirical Rogue, Walden Shakespeare, Guggenheim Museum, Noor Theatre, Shakespeare on the Fly and Anna​ ​Deavere Smith’s​ ​Institute​ ​for​ ​the​ ​Arts​ ​and​ ​Civic​ ​Dialogue​.Trained in classical clarinet at Interlochen Arts Academy, Doug graduated Suma Cum Laude from Oberlin College and holds an M.F.A in Acting from the A.R.T./Moscow Art Theatre Institute at Harvard University.

As a communication consultant Doug has worked with corporate and institutional clients on content development and public speaking skills. From 1999-2004 Doug worked as Director of Research with internationally renowned ecological architecture firm William McDonough + Partners. Following this, he worked with Bruce Mau and the Institute without Boundaries to produce Massive Change, a multi-media installation exhibit focusing on the capacity of design to shape our world for the welfare of humanity. Massive Change exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Vancouver Art Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and was published as a book by Phaidon.
