After a long career as theatre practitioner, scholar and educator, Ellen retired from her post as Professor of Drama and Theatre in 2023. Voicework plays an important role in her practice and research, and she has endorsed voicework in therapeutic and educational applications of theatre. She is part of the Fitzmaurice Institute's research team and former Regional Coordinator for Europe.

Clinical training: Arts therapist (drama), Member of the British Association of Dramatherapists.
