Mel House believes a liberated voice can change the world. One breath at a time.
An Emmy and two-time Telly Award-winning actor, writer, audiobook narrator and voice coach based in New York City, Mel's screen work has appeared on CBS and Showtime, and their films have screened at Cannes, Tribeca, SXSW and the 98th Academy Awards qualifying festival circuit. She created and stars in HOT ANGRY MOM — a punk rock dark comedy about embracing your whole self, including your rage. On stage, she has worked Off-Broadway, regionally and internationally, playing roles from Shakespeare to Ibsen alongside Richard Easton, Michael Cerveris, Ally Sheedy and Kathryn Erbe.
As a Certified Assistant Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®, Mel works as a voice coach for the Fitzmaurice Institute, Lincoln Center Theatre and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and offers private coaching. She brings 25 years of experience to the room, working with organizations including Theatre for a New Audience, Literature to Life, Young Audiences of New York, Rutgers University and Goucher College.
Trained at the William Esper Studio two-year conservatory program, Mel has also studied mask work with Per Brahe at Balerung Stage in Bali (2019) and clown with Philippe Gaulier in France (2022). She is a resident company member of the Actors Center and a member of VASTA, New York Women in Film & TV, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, SAG-AFTRA and AEA.
